What actions Lankford | Fendler + associates took to earn the ENERGY STAR

The renovation of a 100+ year old building presented unique opportunities and challenges for Lankford | Fendler + associates. Transforming the building into an efficient, functional workspace while maintaining character and a sense of history, was a key goal of the project. Numerous environmentally driven decisions were executed to ensure low operating expenses, sustainability in materials and a productive, healthy environment.

  • Replacement of windows, the installation of a curtain wall, tuck pointing and a new Energy Star, high albedo roof provide a tighter building envelope, reducing energy costs.
  • The design of hi/low, dual operation, transparent window shading devices allow for daylight penetration and views to the exterior while blocking solar heat gain and the use of an ambient dimming lighting control system minimize artificial light energy usage
  • Material selections include wheat board walls, recycled plastic soda bottle countertops, reclaimed doors and recycled flooring
  • Low flow plumbing fixtures and a waterless urinal reduce domestic water demand and reduce sanitary waste
  • Occupant comfort and indoor air quality were advantageous results of an energy efficient raised access floor system delivering underfloor air conditioning controlled by an Energy Management System incorporating carbon dioxide monitoring and economizer features.
